Description

Some 50+ years ago, scientists first discovered that regulation of processes within cells was not solely due to the genetic make-up of each cell. Rather, modifications made to proteins, based on that original genetic map, were equally critical. At the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC PPU), our mission is to understand the biological roles of two of the most impactful modifications identified to-date - phosphorylation and ubiquitylation. Disruptions in each have been implicated in a variety of human diseases - from cancer, neurodegeneration, and hypertension to immune disorders. Our researchers have been at the forefront of this research for over 40 years and we will continue in our endeavour to discover the intricacies of cellular signalling pathways, and ultimately, cures for diseases that affect mankind.

Products & Services

The MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC PPU) carries out fundamental research aimed at understanding the physiological roles of protein kinases, phosphatases, and enzymes critical to the ubiquitylation pathway.  The MRC PPU also helps to accelerate the development of small molecule therapeutics directed against these enzymes through a major collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry. Given our expertise in this field, we have developed a number of key reagents -- including cDNA plasmids, proteins and antibodies -- that are available at cost to investigators in academia.  Moreover, we are happy to work with investigators at any institute or commercial entity who is looking to generate these reagents for their own research endeavors.   We specialize in DNA Sequencing, Kinase Profiling, Antibody Generation, Protein Generation and Mass Spectrometry, as well as consultation around each of these services.  Please contact us with any enquiries you may have.
