Tayside nurses recognised with Queen’s Nurse awards

Three nursing staff from NHS Tayside have been recognised by the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS).

Community nurses Jodie Gunn and Karen Laing recently completed the Queen’s Nurse Programme for 2021, a nine-month development programme for community nurses who demonstrate high quality, compassionate care.  At the end of the programme, the 29 participants were awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse.

Jodie Gunn was nominated for the programme for her work as community nurse team leader in the health visiting service in Perth & Kinross.  Karen Laing was recognised for her role as community learning disability nurse at Wedderburn House in Dundee and was part of the dedicated learning disability cohort of the programme.

After successfully completing the programme, Jodie and Karen received their Queen’s Nurse awards at a ceremony in November.

Health visitor Ashley Treanor has been awarded the QNIS Postgraduate Prize for best overall academic performance in the MSc Early Years Practice Programme at Stirling University.

Ashley was nominated by her university as an outstanding student who will promote excellence in community nursing.  Since graduating, Ashley has taken up a health visitor post based in Dundee.

Director of Nursing and Midwifery Claire Pearce said, “I am delighted that Jodie and Karen have been recognised for their commitment and dedication to community nursing.  It really is a fantastic achievement to be among only 29 nurses selected for the prestigious Queen’s Nurse programme across Scotland, and I’m sure that this experience will be of great benefit to them both and to their patients.

“I would also like to congratulate Ashley on her postgraduate award.  It is amazing recognition for her efforts during her studies and we are very lucky to have her join us in Tayside.”

Annie Matossian, team leader for health visiting/women children and families in Dundee, said, “This is a fantastic honour for Ashley and I am delighted to have her as a member of my team.”
