Staff and students from the University of Dundee have had their achievements recognised in the Scottish Parliament.

Dundee-based MSP for North East Scotland Michael Marra lodged a series of motions in the Parliament marking the exceptional contributions that members of the University community make at the local, national and international levels.

Motions are short statements written by an MSP to raise awareness of an issue or celebrate the work of a group, business or individual. Other MSPs can support a motion to show they agree with it and once lodged they stay on the Scottish Parliament website permanently.

Mr Marra visited the University earlier this week to meet with those who were recognised and to present them with printed copies of the motion relating to their work.

He said, “It was a huge privilege to meet with colleagues at the University of Dundee and celebrate some of the ground-breaking work that they are doing. Dundee has a world class reputation in many fields, particularly life sciences, and that is due to the hard work, dedication and academic rigour of its staff.

“At this time, it is especially important that we celebrate the achievements of hardworking staff at the University. I was pleased to lodge these motions in our nation’s parliament in recognition of the excellent work being done.”

Six motions were submitted by Mr Marra congratulating the following staff and students:
