Staff from NHS Tayside have picked up two awards at the national Scottish Health Awards which recognise those who go that extra mile to improve the health and wellbeing of others. The awards were handed out by Humza Yousaf, Cabinet Secretary for Health at a ceremony hosted by Fred MacAulay and held in the O2 Arena in Edinburgh. Margaret Sloan, a support worker in the Older People Mental Health Liaison Team at Perth Royal Infirmary picked up the Support Worker Award. Margaret was nominated for working tirelessly to create a positive and calming environment for patients and staff. Margaret was also a finalist in the Unsung Hero Award category but missed out on a double win as the award went to Tayside colleague, Laic Khalique. Laic, who is NHS Tayside’s Digital Director, collected the Unsung Hero Award for demonstrating outstanding national leadership in the field of equality and diversity within NHS Scotland. As well as collecting two awards on the evening, Tayside also had three other finalists across four award categories. Morag Curnow, Director of Dentistry, Clinical Director Public Dentist Service was a finalist in Leader of the Year, Michael Grogan, Storekeeper, TORT Centre, Ninewells was a finalist in the Support Worker category and the Community Independent Living Services (CILS) Dundee team were finalists in the People’s Choice Award. Lorna Birse-Stewart, Chair of Tayside NHS Board, said, “Huge congratulations to Margaret and Laic on their awards.
