A new nurse-led service to help patients with wounds that are taking a long time to heal has been launched throughout NHS Tayside.
The Tissue Viability Service will support other healthcare professionals in identifying patients with complex wound care needs and also offer expertise in pressure ulcer prevention and management.
Healthcare professionals, such as a ward nurses, community nurses or medical doctors can refer patients to the service.
The first phase of the service has been rolled out to acute and community hospitals and the next phase, expected to begin this summer, will include care homes and provide support to community nurses.
Jane Nicoll, Lead of the Tissue Viability Service, said, “The Tissue Viability Service aims to be person-centred, timely and available to all, irrespective of geographical location.
“We are an accessible team meaning we can offer tissue viability expertise where patients need us. We are very much looking forward to improving care for patients across the region.”
