Medical physicist in national award win

An NHS Tayside medical physicist has been named Sustainability Champion at the inaugural Scottish Government Chief Healthcare Science Officer Awards.

Jean Ngoie, Head of Instrumentation and Clinical Engineering with NHS Tayside, received the award for demonstrating a commitment to sustainability.

Jean was awarded for his work as Chair of NHS Scotland Global Citizenship Surplus Equipment. He oversees donations of surplus medical equipment from across Scotland and makes sure that it is donated to developing countries in an ethical way. He has also contributed to the Chief Medical Officer’s Global Health Executive Committee to develop a best practice framework for donations of new and surplus equipment to Lower Middle Income Countries.

Jean said, “I was delighted to have received this award, especially as it is the first of its kind in Scotland. Sustainability is extremely important to me and is always at the forefront of everything I do, especially with my work with developing countries.

“This award is recognition that we are going in the right direction with our sustainability agenda.”

Jean was also the recipient of the NHS Tayside STAR Award for Global Citizenship in 2019.

The Scottish Government Chief Healthcare Science Officer Awards celebrate the skills and expertise of healthcare scientists. It also provides a platform to share best practice throughout the profession.

Retired members of NHS Tayside staff, Dr David Yirrell and Dr Bill Bartlett, were also recognised at the awards, both receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.
