Dundee tops UK table for Forensic Science

The University of Dundee has been ranked top in the United Kingdom for Forensic Science in the 2023 edition of the Complete University Guide league tables.

There were further strong showings in Medical Technology and Bioengineering, where Dundee was ranked 2nd in the UK, and Dentistry (8th).

Professor Niamh Nic Daeid, Director of the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science at the University, said, “To be named top in the UK for Forensic Science once again confirms the University of Dundee as the premier destination to study and undertake this crucial subject.

“Forensic science is integral to the justice system and wider society, and it is a testament to the efforts of everybody associated both with the Centre and our colleagues in the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification, who provide excellent teaching in forensic archaeology, anthropology and facial reconstruction, that we have been recognised with this ranking.”

Funded by the Leverhulme Trust, the work of the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science questions the robustness of the science used in the investigation of crime science, laboratory analysis and the presentation of scientific evidence within the courts.

It is part of a £10 million, 10-year investment in forensic science research that also aims to improve the way that the subject is communicated throughout the judicial system and to the general public.
