Vivomotion and Scottish 3D animator Fraser Murdoch have recently completed a 3D animation for Intelligent Growth Solutions.

IGS is a leading vertical farming infrastructure business with Crop Research Centre based at the James Hutton Institute.

What are vertical farms I hear you cry?

Essentially, IGS Growth Towers, are comprised of professional snooker table-size trays stacked vertically, which are used to grow various crops under precisely controlled conditions. If you wanted to install one on your existing farm, you can have as many Growth Towers or modules as space allows—or start with two and scale up as your business grows.

This solution for agronomy will also enable crops to be grown in cities, decreasing food miles on what we eat and food insecurity (a must for the UK following recent food shortages).

The cool thing about the technology is that it is not dependent on sunlight or weather conditions, so crops can be grown all year round.  Farming that is sustainable and environmentally friendly – what’s not to love? View one of the stills from the animation, which illustrates the modular nature of the IGS Growth Towers, in this case, built on an inner-city brownfield site.

The collaboration began through a connection made with Douglas Elder, Head of Vertical Farming Solutions at IGS, at the International BioDundee conference.  Since then, Vivomotion have worked with IGS’ Senior Business Intelligence Manager, Steven Mitchell, to complete the 3D visualisation.

Mhairi Towler, founder and CEO of Vivomotion said ‘It’s been an exciting project for us to work on, and we are enjoying seeing the company going from strength to strength with commercial deployments around the world.’
