An opportunity to develop Tayside’s workforce will be on the menu at a business breakfast promoting the University of Dundee’s Graduate Apprenticeship scheme.
Graduate Apprenticeships provide employees at any stage in their career a way of studying for a degree by combining work-based learning with high-quality education. Candidates could be professionals who have limited formal education and are keen to progress, or non-technical employees moving into IT, software development or engineering.
Businesses can either recommend an existing employee to undertake a Graduate Apprenticeship or hire a new member of staff.
To highlight the benefits of Graduate Apprenticeships, the University will welcome local employers to campus on Thursday 4 July to learn more.
Dr Karen Petrie, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching at the University’s School of Science and Engineering, said, “The University of Dundee has been providing Graduate Apprenticeships for several years now and our programme continues to grow. That is testament to the success of the initiative, which is allowing individuals to develop the skills that our industrial partners are seeking in today’s demanding work environment.
“Graduate Apprenticeships are also allowing businesses to retain and motivate valued members of staff while equipping their workforce with the latest skills and knowledge. Because the learning is work-based, it really is a win-win situation for everybody.”
As one of Scotland’s leading providers of Graduate Apprenticeships, the University of Dundee is committed to developing graduates with ambition and high-level practical and technical skills.
Working in conjunction with Skills Development Scotland, the University will this year be offering courses in subjects covering a range of disciplines, including IT Management for Business, IT Software Development, Business Management, Civil Engineering, and Engineering, Design and Manufacturing.
The business breakfast will include the opportunity to talk to academic staff and to hear from employers and employees about their Graduate Apprenticeship experience.
The event takes place from 8.30am – 10am on Thursday 4 July at the University’s Queen Mother Building. The business breakfast is free to attend, though places must be reserved in advance online.
