Technology Transfer Manager, Research and Innovation Services

Research and Innovation Services (RIS) is the central professional services office at the University of Dundee which provides integrated research funding development, commercialisation and business engagement support to academic researchers. Working in partnership to deliver University and School strategic priorities and generate academic, economic and societal impact.

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Technology Transfer Manager within our IP and Commercialisation Team, to offer professional support to our high profile academic community with a focus on a pragmatic, creative deal structuring approach and professional IP management throughout a wide range of academic and industry innovation opportunities.

The post will report to a Senior Commercialisation Manager and will be integral to a thriving Directorate by providing professional services including deal structuring and closure, commercialisation support, IP due diligence and IP portfolio management. You will work closely with the wider IP and Commercialisation Team, external industry partners and patent agents.

Your priorities will include:

  • Assessment of the commercial potential of invention disclosures and establishing technology-specific commercialisation strategies.

  • Leading on IP due diligence checks including inventor-ship, ownership, patentability and establishing revenue sharing arrangements.
  • Marketing technologies to potential licensees and concluding appropriate licence and other commercial arrangements.
  • Supporting the development of spin out companies including coordination of contractual and legal agreements working closely with the Contracts and Legal team.
  • Negotiating license and commercialisation deals to Heads of Terms and working with Contracts/Legal team to complete appropriate contracts.
  • Supporting and, as appropriate leading negotiations around research collaborations with industry, advising on commercial terms, IP considerations and deal structures.

 

    Who we’re looking for:

    • A first degree in a STEM related subject
       

    • An ability to demonstrate in-depth experience and working knowledge of IP management and due diligence practice.

    • An ability to demonstrate hands on experience and success in negotiations of a range of deal structures around early stage IP and research collaborations including complex multi-partner deal structures.

    • Several years in a technology transfer function within an HEI, Industry or Funding Body dealing with IP management, negotiating licenses and commercialisation deals.

    • Experience of supporting the collation and preparation of agreements related to company formation.
