James Hutton Limited (JHL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of The James Hutton Institute based in Dundee and Aberdeen, is responsible for the commercialisation of the scientific expertise, intellectual property, facilities and resources of The James Hutton Institute.

• We have an extensive portfolio of more than 40 plant varieties, many of which are protected by Plant Variety Rights and are available for licensing worldwide. Together with commercial partners, we breed new varieties of potatoes, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and other crops.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Marketing Manager to help deliver our business strategy and achieve our business goals. This is an excellent opportunity to develop the marketing capability of a world-renowned scientific organisation that is looking to expand its market share while bringing new and exciting services. The successful candidate will be required to create and deliver a dynamic and effective marketing strategy that will include developing multiple campaigns for lead generation, brand awareness, event promotion, working with the Institutes communications team, and customer communications. The Marketing Manager will also play a key role in developing customer, market and competitor intelligence to help drive strategic direction and product/service development. The post will be part of the Senior Management Group and will contribute to improvement and advancement of the business.
Responsibilities include:
• Developing and implementing the Marketing Strategy for all areas of James Hutton Ltd in line with the company’s financial and reputational objectives.
• Managing all marketing aspects for the Strategic Business Units within the company and coordinating marketing campaigns with sales activities, including social media campaigns and supporting and/or attending trade shows.
• Plan and deliver digital and print campaigns. Manage the creation and delivery of all marketing materials and collateral in line with plans and budget.
• Develop and implement effective lead generation campaigns, measure and report results.
• Maintain effective internal communications to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are kept informed of marketing objectives and progress.
• Support the senior commercial staff to gather Market Intelligence by understanding our customers’ needs and the market conditions.
• Help develop and manage the company’s marketing budget.
• Ability to manage marketing activities that require design in line with the James Hutton Ltd brand guidelines.
The ideal candidate will have a formal qualification in marketing, ideally backed up with some qualifications in science or experience working in a similar organisation. They will need excellent communication skills both written and verbal, as well as being organised and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines. An ability to translate complex ideas into concise messages appropriate for different audiences is essential.
