Platinum Informatics is a Dundee-based Life Sciences Informatics company, established in 2018, dedicated to transforming scientific experimentation by bringing the digital laboratory of the future to the research laboratories of today. Our software solution is an integrated suite of performant tools designed for commercial R&D laboratories focussed on multi-omics research. In addition, we have our own contract research service, Platinum Discovery offering an integrated suite of services from experimental design to insight delivery, with deep expertise in Proteomics and access to one of the largest mass spectrometry facilities in the world, supported by Platinum Desimal. Our Desimal solution is an end to end suite of software tools focused on data collection, management, curation, analysis and interrogation with automating software to significantly reduce time and errors to complete these types of experiments involving both big and complex data.
Your new role
We are looking for a highly motivated Head of Software Development to join our growing team. You can perform this role in Dundee or remotely (GMT +/-1, regular travel to Dundee required). Reporting to the CEO, your role will involve:
Acting as a central point of contact for technical questions across the board of the Desimal product suite
Managing a team of product owners and through them being accountable for delivery on budget on time
Closely collaborating with an interdisciplinary team (Technical, Customer Experience, Commercial, Proteomic Research division) and our Customers
Owning and driving technical decision making, ensuring scalability and security of our product suite
Technological leadership, coaching and mentoring
Contributing to our vision and strategy and reporting on Desimal product progress achievements and opportunities as a member of the senior leadership team.
About you and your experience
You will have relevant prior experience, including a strong balance of technological and commercial awareness. You will be familiar with bringing a software product to market on budget on time. This role would be suitable for you if you are an experienced technical people manager keen to contribute both on a strategic and an operational level to our start up.
You must be able to work both on your own and as part of a team. To perform this role successfully you will require excellent communication skills and the ability to influence key stakeholders and win them for your vision. The role combines both technological and people leadership so you will be comfortable and competent in both fields. In your role you will work in an interdisciplinary team and you will be required to effectively collaborate and understand viewpoints of a number of different stakeholders (technological, commercial, scientific).
Essential Skills
Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
Software project management training.
Experience leading commercial software development teams and people managers.
Strong track record of delivering on budget, on time.
Highly organised and meticulous.
Strong communicator.

Collaborative and team oriented.
Desirable
Experience developing software within a Life Sciences domain, or keen aspiration to acquire the knowledge.
Commercial experience in an Object-Oriented Programming Language (we use Python), Mobile (we use Flutter), Web Development (we use TypeScript, React) and/or in Devops solutions (we use Ansible).
