DUNDEE- One City, Many Discoveries

Dundee: One city, many discoveries

Dundee is one of Scotland's major cities with a population of 143,000. Dundee is situated on the east coast of Scotland in a scenic location on the banks of the river Tay. When Stephen Fry was rector of the University of Dundee he commented that 'Dundee's setting is probably more extraordinary than any other city in Scotland or Britain. It is about as ideal - ludicrously ideal - as any city setting could be.' Its central location commands excellent communication links through road, rail, air and sea. 90% of the Scottish population is located within a 90 minute drive, the city is placed on the main UK east-coast railway line, and has a city centre airport with daily direct flights to London City airport. The city is large enough to offer the advantages of city life, but compact enough to offer real quality of life benefits such as short commuting times and easy access to beautiful unspoilt countryside, hills and coastline.

Traditionally a centre for engineering and heavy manufacturing, Dundee has now transformed itself into a dynamic, modern city with an international reputation as a centre for arts and culture, life sciences, and the creative industries. It is a city of learning with more students per head of population than Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Glasgow. The University of Dundee and the University of Abertay Dundee both carry out world class research in areas such as life sciences, computer arts and environmental research. 41,000 students study in the city every year, representing over 75 nationalities. Dundee College offers a range of vocational courses, and Dundee is also home to the prestigious Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic Studies, which has played a pivotal role in the establishment of a sister city relationship between Dundee and Dubai.

Dundee has a population of more than 300,000 people within a 30 minute drive time catchment area. With many people attracted to the city to work, rest and play, Dundee is a cosmopolitan business centre during the day and a lively social location at night. The city's cultural quarter offers a vibrant arts and culture scene alongside a wide variety of places to eat, drink and shop.

With the cost of living 19.2% cheaper than the rest of the UK on average, an excellent business infrastructure and the city going through a period of significant economic growth, Dundee is the ideal location to build a business, work and live.
