Freshwater Laboratory

Description

The freshwater fisheries activities of the Scottish Government are the responsibility of the Marine Scotland Freshwater Fisheries Laboratory (FFL), Pitlochry, on the shores of Loch Faskally in Perthshire.

The principal task of the FFL is to provide scientific advice to the Scottish Government on all aspects of the Scottish fisheries for migratory and fresh water species. Work on salmon and sea trout forms the bulk of the research programme, because of the high value of these species and their heavy requirements for stock management advice.
